Wow, truly awful night after catheter out yesterday.

Finally figured out to put the "level 2" pad inside the pants, and recline in bed propped up rather than other positions.

However, I have the most horrendous constipation "lump" in my lower guts, like a rock, tender. I have complained about this to nurses for a week now. I was on Tramadol quite a bit after the surgery (300mg x 4 per day) which I know made things even worse.

Yesterday, nurses after catheter removal gave me glycerin suppository to try, which I did last night after being unable to sleep due to constipation pain. After a while this "worked" explosively (but did not dislodge the rock) and I was screaming and thrashing around with my guts spasming and straining to try to pass this thing. My son was in tears. I have never felt anything like this before.

After about 2 hours I calmed down enough (without passing the rock) to get some sleep - about 3 hours. I am still pretty exhausted but not insane like trying to pass the rock last night.

I went do to pee and clean up some, some blood in discharge into pad last night, but not too bad. Then without warning another round of spasms trying to expel the rock, I guess.

After, a dark red-brown goo came out of my penis, pumping out in squirts into the toilet. I was in shock. I thought poo was coming out of my willy (!!) but it was probably old tired blood or clot or something. It was sticky and a mess. I captured some of it in a bottle.

I have called the hospital, very worried that I tore something loose. I also passed some mostly clear urine later, but the pad now has dark red goo in it.

All-in-all I am feeling pretty despondent, and still the rock is in my gut. The hospital is due to call me back "more senior nurse needed"

The nurse called me and said it was probably a clot I passed. If so it was huge 20-30cc. Further advice they are calling another still more senior nurse.

So sorry to hear you're having problems. Will be thinking and praying for you to get better.

As you can see, I was DX way to late for any surgery, so just taking HT. I to, not sleeping much the past few weeks. Always up around 4am no matter what time I go to bed.

I'm very thankful for life and what it's meant to me since Oct. 2012!!

Take care and things will get better.

Best of luck to you. After my surgery I was in a ward and the fellow next to me has been fighting PCa for 18 yrs now. His PSA is over 500 and he gets hormone therapy and radiation. He was a very fine, warm man, inspiring and full of life.

Our lives are measured in the joy we provide each other. Thanks very much for your kind thoughts

the lump may not be from constipation, it could be some type of hematoma created from the operation. If so there is not much help for it just time. Anyway, I hope you get more comfortable.

Thank you. Yes that might be the case. I am on prune juice, antibiotic and Movicol as well now. We will see

The suppository seems to have some more lasting effects. Lots of diarrhea today but lump still in gut.

Although it may seem contrary having just gotten catheter out, drink lots of fluids during the day to help flush bladder out, I passed a few small clots for a week or so after having catheter out but nothing like you described.

Have you talked to your surgeon or uro? If it was me, I'd want my docs to know about all this. Yours is one of the more difficult post-op experiences I've read about here, and I had a bad one. Just a thought. Wishing you smooth sailing soon.

In hospital. Came in last night due to pain in gut. They gave me codeine plus acetaminophen, then ibuprofen, then codeine tablet, then oral morphine over four hours as the pain got worse and worse. Then morphine into cannula. Then again.... Then a third time!

Didn't help.

I was scheduled for X-ray and catScan until a young urologist realized the lump in my gut was not impacted stool, but was my bladder hard as a rock and overfilled. "Drink more" from my cancer nurses was making it worse!

The young (senior urologist on duty) doc took me to a side corridor and put a catheter into my penis himself and huge amounts of red gunk came out. Some sort of infection. Felt pain relief instantly.

Still here today and this afternoon about an hour ago I began to bloat again. The ward staff flushed the catheter and some red gunk and they then drained it all again.

Not sure where we go from here, but at least we have a clue. I have been on antibiotics since last night.

I will keep you updated.

Donelson, you are where you need to be, in the hospital and being cared for by the experts. Surely hope all of this is resolved for you soon. You have certainly had a rough time of it so far.

Doc flushed me out again an hour ago to clear but already turning red spotty. Doc said this catheter might be in two whole weeks etc etc

At least no wet nappies at night ;(

This morning doc says we will keep catheter in for about two weeks plus on Cipro whole time. Then removal and hopefully back to fighting PCa.

Back in hospital today

Seems there is a hole in my urethra to my bowel. Not good. Fecal matter leaking out of my penis. Nice, eh? :(

Due for MRI scan this afternoon, then surgery at some point. Could be complex and require diversion of bowel

I had a similar scare, I went thru 24 hours of the worse hershey squirts 2 days after my surgery and the initial thoughts were the same, somehow the bowel possibly got sewn to the urethra and I was urinating thru the bowel even though testing was performed for a leak during surgery between the two organs or possibly a CDIFF infection.

After doing a cystogram looking for leakage and testing for CDIFF no leakage was found between bowel and urethra, the connection between bladder and urethra was perfect and the results of the CDIFF test was negative. The results were so good the URO took my catheter out only 5 days after surgery instead of the scheduled 9 days. The reasoning for the diarrhea was due to an antibiotic I never took before. Over the next few days I was back to normal bowel movements and kept up the fluids and juices to keep things flowing. A year after my RALP I went thru a colonoscopy and things checked out good again with the plumbing, some polyps were found (benign), but it was recommended I need to get another colonoscopy in 3 years to make sure no other polyps return and if so stay (benign). But I get to drink the Golytely prep again that we all like so well  turn .  

Sounds like your doctors are on the right track and you are in the best place.

I'm so sorry to hear how you've been suffering. It had looked like things were finally being resolved and now this. You are amongst a great group of people who really feel for you because there but for the grace of God goest any of us. Hang in there!!!!
