People have mentioned on using Neosporin to help relieve the discomfort from the catheter. The last 5 days prior to having the catheter removed I had to resort to this too. And several times I had to mix a little lidocaine with it to reduce the sometimes painful catheter at the tip of the penis.
Well, this morning I got my catheter removed and I mentioned this to my urologist. He didn't have any problem with the lidocaine, but did say that Neosporin is a no-no and can cause urethra stricture. He said he learned that from his pediatric urology training. He then said the best thing to use is KY jelly.

Mine said petroleum jelly (aka Vaseline) is OK too. That's what I used.

Mine was adamant that I use only water-based creams. My dermatologist has always forbidden neosporin for reasons of scarring.

My dermatologist has also nixed Neosporin. I still have the tiny little eight-dollar tube of petroleum jelly that I was given in the hospital to keep my meatus greased.

Until I got my catheter out this morning, I too was having some on and off pain at the tip which I dosed with Lidocaine and/or K-Y Jelly. I had read that water based K-Y was preferable to Vaseline.

I used KY jelly. Always wondered why they called it jelly? Wouldn't it be more appropriate to call it jam?
