Compound in grape seed extract 'kills prostate cancer cells'

New research suggests that a component found in grape seed extract is effective in killing prostate cancer cells. This is according to a study published in the journal Nutrition and Cancer.

Investigators from the University of Colorado Cancer Center have analyzed the potential of grape seed extract (GSE) for its anti-cancer properties over the last 10 years.

But although previous research from the team has demonstrated its effectiveness against cancer cells and how it works, it was unknown as to which element of GSE produces these effects.

"This naturally occurring compound, GSE, is a complex mixture of polyphenols and, so far, it has been unclear about the biologically active constituents of GSE against cancer cells," says Alpna Tyagi, of the University of Colorado Skaggs School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences.

First PSA test in a few weeks and why not relax with some wine knowing or hoping that each sip is a poke in cancer's eye?

So I guess we should wash down the grape seed extract with a glass of red wine.

But I only like seedless grapes...

I will be "graping up" from now on.

Now I do like my two glasses of wine a day...for the resveratrol, of course. But I just learned, seriously, that there is also resveratrol in peanuts and pistachios. I mention this because I happen to eat a peanut butter sandwhich for lunch every day and also enjoy pistachios and there was a recent study that said that if you ate 1 oz of nuts (including peanuts & yes they are legumes but they still are included) a day, you reduce your risk of dying by 20%. Can't hurt plus you get something to eat with the Merlot!
