Am I the only person that is appalled that this woman wrote an article and submitted it to the Journal of the national Cancer institute in order to cause Dendreon's stock to drop low enough that she wouldn't lose her butt on her stocks. Furthermore Reuters gave her article so much attention that it had doctors everywhere questioning the viability of provenge

You're absolutely right, this sort of thing is unconscionable. I only hope that this person receives some kind of appropriate rebuke, preferably in the form of financial loss (a fine) or professional reprimand (whatever that may mean). Unfortunately, I'm not convinced either will happen.

Perhaps the only good that might come out of this, and granted this is a very real stretch, is that the issue of prostate cancer at least gets some national press out of this, not that we need this kind of attention, but if it gets even a few people to think about PCa, then at least that much is to the good.

I thought about replying earlier, but I was actually waiting for others who are better informed on the Provenge issues to weigh in first.

I'll bet that happens a lot. It's not that no one is reading our posts, or choosing not to respond, they're just waiting for what they think is the right time to respond. Then there are all those of us who don't get to the forum until evening, etc.

This is a huge conflict of interest.

Is this any different than Martha Stewert going to jail?

I think she acted on inside information, but it amounts to the same lack of ethics. In fact, this seems even worse.

Marie Huber is just the top of the iceberg of those powerful who try to put Provenge on the shelf and damage the company so badly that could drive it to bankruptcy.

She is not so powerful to do it alone. 25K fine by SEC is a joke. Again, SEC is allowing another criminal crooks to escape. SEC will NEVER have the guts or the political latitude to go after the big fish criminals in this story. The money is huge enough to buy off even the Feds that are supposed to be above the fray. It looked to me like a very well orchestrated and executed effort" to minimize" Provenge.

How many patients who were eligible for this treatment and didn't receive it ? Thousands... I wonder how many who were denied Provenge died prematurely as a result.

In the long run, it's not about Marie Huber in my opinion. It's about following the trail of tears left by victims. I'd love to see where Huber's particular thread in the spider web leads and how many criminals whose names we might imagine in our minds' wanderings are connected via her thread. But my wish I think never will come true.

It was very interesting podcast posted on Research to Practice about this paper in 2012:

Interdisciplinary critique of sipuleucel-T as immunotherapy for CRPC.

It is response by Daniel P Petrylak, MD Professor of Medicine Program Director, Genitourinary Oncology Co-Director, Signal Transduction Program Yale Comprehensive Cancer Center New Haven, Connecticut.

You can feel disgusts in his voice about this theory.

He talk about his concerns about publication like this that don't have any foundation and there were number of doctors refuse to prescribe Provenge because of this paper.

It is unfortunate for Provenge that this paper was accepted in the JNCI.
