Medical Oncologists

I don't know if this is allowed here, but does anyone have recommendations for medical oncologists who spend most of their time on prostate cancer in Massachusetts.

We received two names so far, Mary-Ellen Taplin and Michael Smith.  Any thoughts on these or any other names?

There are some great options at Mass General.

Mary Ellen has a strong background and is or has been an ECOG member for years. She has quite a few papers out there. This is an important group that performs trials and are known researchers.

I met with Dr. Taplin at the time of my original diagnosis in 2002 when she was at U Mass Medical Center. My Uro recommended I meet with her to get her point of view before going ahead with any treatment--which btw, also gave me good vibes about the uro. I liked her a lot. She pointed out that all doctors have biases based on their specialties and that external and brachy radiation were beginning (remember this was 2002) to show comparable results to surgery. I ultimately went ahead with the surgery, but considered her advice and did quite a bit of further research before making the decision.

As of now I have no detectible PSA 3 1/2 years after salvage radiation, but I know I am at high risk of recurrence. If my PSA should start notching up in the future she is the person I expect to call first.

Thanks for your input. I just realized that I put Michael Smith and his name is Matthew Smith. He is at Mass General.
