GW, not sure whether this is typical but it happened to me as well.
I bought a pump from my local adult shop, its a lot cheaper. I had some pluses in the first few days of usage but lately I don't use it at all. I applied some physics to my thinking. For the pump to work, there should not be any air(liquid) coming into the tube other than your penis and venous blood. However if my weakened continence sphincters were still working on sealing the bottom end of the tube, applying suction and putting pressure on the sphincters this early in the post op period was not a good strategy, so I stopped using it.
I might try it again much later! Having said that, the jury is still out on the use of the pump -- "there is currently no human or animal evidence to show that vacuum devices are of any benefit in the post-prostatectomy patient" (Mulhall 2009 "Saving your sex life" p.104). Now things could have changed since this publication.
All the best GW with your recovery!
