Surgery tomorrow and terrified.

My only advice is to hang in there and try to keep your sense of humor.

You've made a well-considered and reasonable treatment choice, and it sounds like you'll be in good hands. This isn't the most fun thing I can imagine doing, but you won't experience much pain at all and there's a very good chance you'll roll out of that operating room cured. Lots of us have been through this, and you're going to be all right.

Try not to get too anxious over this. You might want to use tonight as a chance to get one last run outta that prostate before you hand it over to the man. My only other advice is don't trip over the catheter ;-)

Let us know how you're doing when you get to the other side.

You'll be surprised at how quickly you'll recover. You're younger than me and I was out walking 3-5 miles 48 hours after surgery. Worry is a natural reaction, but the odds are way in your favor that this will be just a bump in the road. My advise is to start slow and listen to your body. I felt so good after surgery I pushed myself too hard a couple of times and paid the price the next day. Good luck to you!

Tomorrow it will 9 weeks since my surgery. I had the same mixed emotions but everyone on this site made it much more comfortable for me.

I can tell you that what you're feeling is a normal reaction. I was dreading the surgery and the catheter. But after 2 weeks the catheter was gone and within a few more weeks, I was totally dry. I might have a dribble or two sneezing or trying to lift something, but no big deal.

I had nerve sparing surgery and finally things are starting to move again. Finally got my PSA checked on 12/31 and it was <0.06.

Stay strong and keep your spirits up. You'll do fine. Just listen to your doctors, nurses and care givers. Try not to do too much. Just walked as much as you can and drink lots of water.

Yes, by all means skip the game and go to bed early. Surgery is basically a nice nap followed by a slightly-uncomfortable all-day snooze. You wouldn't want to show up for that sleepy.

Today is 9 weeks since my surgery, its not bad and if I had to choose to do it again I would.

I dont remember a thing and the post op is not too bad either.

Check back a few weeks for threads from me, lapilot, clanda, berk and brewer, all of us have just had this done

It will all be a blur in a few weeks

I read something before surgery that helped me

"Remember, the main thing is the main thing"

Go in tomorrow, eyes open, full of confidence, hope and positivity. You are about to go kick cancer's ***.

Haven't had the surgery, but did have TURP. I tried to pull the catheter out in my sleep, make sure you don't try that! They call it a Foley, I guess the name of fellow who invented it. You will learn to take care of Foley, he takes care of you.

9 weeks since da vinci. nearly dry, just a few odd leaks.
One psa test and undetectable.
Yes i was nervous about op but thought same as Peter said. I was asleep. Woke up and no pain.12 hours after op i was up washing and showerring myself. Then had a walk along the corridor with my physio. She told me to rest but when she had gone i had 2 more walks!! i was on a high the day after the op as so pleased it was over and surgeon said how pleased he was with how it had gone.
I am impressed with the person who was walking 5 miles within a few weeks. I took it a bit slower buit in second week was doing alot of walking.
The catheter wasn't a bad as i thought and taking it out was very easy(i admit i was dreading it).
Allow time to recover...don't rush it.Once the catheter is out you will feel a bit more comfortable.
By the time my op came around i was very positive and felt it was the best way to go. I took it on and won!! I made the right decision.
Like you i chose an experienced surgeon.

I hated Cathy Catheter! Thank God we had a Hollywood marriage and she was out of my life after wrecking it for a short while. Funny, after she was gone and I started dripping like a coffee pot I kinda wanted her back a little.

Fun times await! I had some of the best laughs of my life during the process. Like an old pro in the NFL told Howie Long, act like you've been there...soon you will have been.

What an adrenalin rush. Coming to was a ball... I remember the Minnesota Vikings pre-season game was on the TV. I hate the Vikings and if it wasn't for the pic of Jesus hanging on the wall, I would've thought I didn't make it and ended up somewhere other than my desired destination. Vikings pre-season football is truly H E double hockey sticks.

You should be happy. You have Prostate Cancer. This operation is the first step toward curing your cancer.
Today is 16 days since my surgery. I feel almost 100% back to normal. I went to work today for 4 hours. I'm an electrical contractor, my only limitation is that I can't lift more than ten pounds for the next 2 weeks.

Lots of good advice here. Im having the surgery at North Florida Hospital. There are two hospitals in Gainesville. One is Shands which is affiliated with the Univ. of Fla and is a teaching hospital but my Urologist works out of North Florida. I am confident and feel very good about my choice in Surgeons which does help. I went back and read some old posts as Patrick said and thats been helpful also. You guys have been great and I cant tell you how much this truly helps. But Im sure ya'll already know how much it can help.

We will look for you on the other side and as others have said, you will do fine. At first, I hated the catheter but after a few days, it was fine. The bonus is that the Urology units are usually staffed by the prettiest nurses :)

Worrying means you think something bad is going to happen and unless you're going to back out, what's the point of that.  All will be good...ok, maybe in about a week after you get the catheter out.
