Hello Petra .....
I was just in today for a ton of questions to be answered, a blood draw and my 6th Jevtana chemo treatment. The Nurse Practitioner gives me as much time as I need and has been in Oncology for close to 10-years.
You said that Xtandi was the first oral tried. That is unusual. If it is an oral, Zytiga is typically the first ...... and if it's an injected chemo, it is usually taxotere - and injected thru a port by way of an IV overhead.
If the chemo taken is taxotere, I did not lose much weright on that - but I did lose a lot of weight (over 40-pounds) while taking Zytiga. Please note, Xtandi is similar in composition to Zytiga - and with similar side effects for many. Xtandi does work well in quickly bringing down PSA for most people. It did not work for me at all.
Xtandi is also known for having many side effects, and in my oncologists office, most are either takne off ofit or reduced from 4-capsules a day down to as low as 1-capsule a day.
You did not show a profile of the past 3 to 4-years with types of trials and meds used - and for how long for each. I assume your husband is seeing an oncologist - and maybe a urologist as well. Nothing was mentioned either about hormone therapy - whether it's being used, for how long and what type.
You can unforunately count on him being weak while on chemo or a hormone. It's just what happens. I don't have a clue about the face and mouth. A qualified oncologist should either have a good idea or be able to refer you to someone who will.
You haven't given enough information about him .... including age. By the way, my age is 71 and my profile of meds/treatments are shown below.
Peace and wellness
