Had my monthly scans and PSA. Seems like I'm holding steading. My PSA fluctuates from month to month but stays somewhere around 2.0.
In short, I'm taking a PARP Inhibitor called ABT-888. It works on the fact that I have a gene mutation called BRCA2. The PARP inhibitors attempt to repair the damaged DNA and as a result winds up killing cancer cells. My stage 4 metastatic hormone-resistant prostate cancer has been held in check for about 9 months now. Hopefully it will last much longer.
I also have no side effects apart from fatigue.
I suspect when this stops working, I'll move to either XTandi or Zytiga, or another clinical trial. There are trials combining PARP Inhibitors with Zytiga going on, so maybe that's in my future as well.
