When I was dispatched from Mayo Clinic on the day I got rid of Cathy Catheter and my final pathology, I was told that if I worked my kegels too hard they would "wear out" so I wanted to avoid overdoing the exercises. Their protocol put you on a regimen of 6 sets of holding for 10 seconds at a time, preferably, before bed.
Has anyone experienced "kegel fatigue" and what are the pitfalls? What are the signs? Is it a permanent condition?
I don't fully understand all that goes along with kegel exercising. I know that it tightens the muscles thereby reducing incontinence, but at what point do you stop doing them, if ever? Is there a point where you no longer need them like if you're dry for months, do you just say to yourself that you don't need to do them, or will you always need to keep them in shape?
I'm in a pretty good spot with my incontinence. I wanted to feel like I was 100% in that area and for the most part, I am. However, every once in awhile I'll have some anomalous experience that doesn't fit with my regular expectations. Is that from not doing enough kegels during that time frame? Is it from doing too many kegel exercises? Not sure what the balance is for the exercise.
Would love to hear from some experienced kegel warriors. A weird question...do steroids aid in continence? I know how they benefit athletes and bodybuilders. Would the same apply to those of us who need to work our kegels? Other than a steroid shot at the doc for an illness, I've never taken any and realize their side effects, but do wonder if they could be beneficial in some cases for those with some tough continence issues?
