Had my catheter pulled last Friday on day 10. That was wonderful. Other news also great. Negative margins, seminal vesicles and lymph nodes all clear. What great news.
Now working on continence. I have been pretty successful with only some minor leakage. But my problem is that when I go to pee, I don't get much volume, it hurts a bit, and I don't get that ahhhhh feeling. Still feels like I have to go. Repeat every hour or so.
Is this normal, and just part of the process? Am I too impatient? Need to drink more fluids? Any wisdom out there on this.?

Bill,
Slippery word, that "normal" thing. I dunno about
normal but what you describe is fairly typical. A fairly popular complaint from guys where you are is that they feel less comfortable right after they go than they did before. It only lasts a few seconds then it goes away until next time but it
is
disconcerting.
Actually, it sounds like you are doing better than average... which still sucks when it's you who is leaking.
Hang in there. It gets better.

I agree with Peter. Its a very slippery word. I had some pain at end of penis for about
a week after cath removal. Plus Im sure our bladders werent happy about
that balloon in there. I also had an ache in my bladder if I waited to long to get up at night to go. I hope the next few days will improve for you. I actually rubbed a little neosporin on the tip for a few days after cath removal. Doc didnt say do this but I figured if it helped with the rubber hose in there its gotta help some.

You're doing fine. That's a good post surgery report.
You're still healing so things will continue to change a lot over the next few weeks. It's hard not to think about
all the new aches, pains and oddities going on but hang in there it gets better each day.
Before you know it this will be just a bad memory.

What you are experiencing is fairly normal. Things will get better with time. I tried to pee while sitting on the toilet. That seemed to help because I will relax my muscles and do a better job emptying my bladder.

One explanation I heard that seemed to make sense was that, with the catheter, your bladder never inflates - the pee immediately empties into the bag - so the bladder tightens up. When the cath comes out it takes some time to re-stretch the bladder so it returns to it's former capacity before telling you to pee. I would be awakened at night with the urge to pee every two hours. I'd empty my bladder, but with nowhere near the volume I expected based on the urge I felt.
So, during the day, I'd ignore the initial urges and would hold my pee as long as I could to stretch my bladder. I'm not sure if that helped, or if it was just the normal healing process, but everything was back to normal in a couple of weeks.
Welcome to the other side. It sounds like you're doing GREAT!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the encouraging words on the pathology.
Miley, that's kind of what I think is happening.. Bladder shrunk down to thimble size, plus probably not so happy about
having a balloon inside for ten days. I am going to drink lots of water and cranberry and see if I can stretch out the time between visits to the porcelain. Going for the little bit better every day. Hello other side, I think this is going to be the right side.
