I would like to find out from my friends here who are ahead of me on their post RALP journeys. I am 9 weeks post op and going through the stuff we are all going through. I am back to work nearly full time. My spirits are good. My question revolves around fatigue. This weekend I slept nearly the whole weekend. Getting up in the morning is very difficult and in the evenings I am a zombie. How does all of this effect you and how long should I expect this to continue?

Depends on what shape you were in before surgery and how active you've been since. Walking is a great way to build your endurance back up and it really helps with incontinence too if that is still an issue. Your body has been through a lot and needs time. I felt completely normal again at about 6 months.

Scooter,

I'm about 3 months post RALP and I fell about 90% back to normal. I was very active before surgery and a few years younger than you are. I went back to work 4 weeks after surgery and it was tough working a full day. Good luck in your recovery.

I was just talking to my wife about this over the weekend. I still get tired at night and by the afternoon on weekend...

But I am also much more active. I bet it's the same for you, more activity same level of fatigue.

Look back at how much better you feel than a month ago, it seems to be a long slow recovery and different for everyone

Thanks for the replies. The only activity I have done since the surgery is walking. My exercise of choice has been bicycling but that is off the table for awhile. My work keeps me pretty active so by the end of the day I am spent. I was told to expect fatigue so I will gust muddle on through it.

Your body is still healing. Very deep inside a lot of your energy is being diverted to continued healing. So, it's kind of expected at this point.

I find after a surgery it takes me a good three months before that really starts to resolve.

and simple walking is the best at this point. Try to do a little more each week and build up. Before you know it, you'll be back to non-sleeping weekends.

As you know I am two weeks ahead of yup and I too find myself dragging. I was in Vegas for week working and was wiped out, still having issues with incontence but continue to walk and hope to get better

Scooter I was a week after you , im 58 . retired wall street
but have a landscape business where I do all the work myself
I m also a gym rat and runner , was averaging 50 miles a week before this nightmare
im lucky to have had surgery in winter when not landscaping . I do drive a school van 4 hours a day
and have been back at gym for a month now deciding what I can do . work must be tiring and I do take a 40 minute nap every day and that helps relieve that proplem you and I have spoke about .
I look forward to the warmer weather and the running and bike riding and landscape .
I find I get that issue as the day wears on .

Pre DaVinci I had more energy. I was very much into running and biking. Did triathlons and downhill skiing. Now, almost five years later, I mainly walk and lift weights.

Gave up my consulting business a couple of years after the Operation because I could no longer work in the field for a week straight .... I would be dragging by Wednesday. Couldn't work at altitude. Seems I need a nap (40 minutes) almost every day. If I sit down to read at night I am asleep in the chair in 15 minutes. In general much mellower.

Thought I was just getting old .... maybe it was the surgery.

Taking naps is important as well. Plus depression is a factor for many after dx with PCa and depression can cause fatigue. Meds are available for this. Good luck.

The fatigue is normal. One of the things everyone agreed on at the support meeting was havng this constant fatigue post "intervention". Little "power naps" are the order of the day!
