Thought I would post an update for those PC brothers still struggling with incontinence. My AMS sling is now one year old. From the date of installation to now, I haven’t had a single drop of stress incontinence. If you will check my posts from a year ago, you’ll see that I had some difficulty getting rid of the cath. Once I got past that, it’s been smooth sailing. Notwithstanding the small issues included here, this was the best decision that I’ve made since my initial PC diagnosis. Just a couple of things that are different (not bad, just different): (1) I’ve had just a couple of instances of urge incontinence. I think that my bladder capacity is somewhat diminished, and I’ve been a little lazy. I think I’ve beat the problem with "pre-emptive peeing", and kegels. Although, I am a little worried about the first time at a sporting event, when I run to the bathroom, to find it full. My solution - go at every chance. (2) Peeing is a little different - it takes a little more effort to start and stop. It’s more a series of squirts than one continuous stream. And at the end, there may be a surprise squirt. There’s a little lag time between the push, and the stream. I have to be sure the last squirt is done before putting little Willie away.
I’m playing baseball and football with grandkids; wrestling with them on the floor; lifting and carrying heavy loads, hunting and fishing, and generally not even thinking about pads or leaks. Quite liberating.
If you are a year out from RP, slightly incontinent, and can pass the uro’s tests (the worst part of the whole thing), I would say that you should seriously consider getting it done. If you qualify, just do it!
Now, if I could just figure out this incredible shrinking Willie, and the ED part!
