What a tough situation. I assume you are not old enough for Medicare?
If so, how is this not a ACA issue? Can't you just go to their site and find an insurance plan?
Given your circumstances, with possible heavy costs in your future, that might seem to be a decent way to go. Thank goodness we no longer have the pre-existing condition clause. I have no clue what the cost would be. Have you investigated this?
I sure would hate to see anyone give up and not get treated because of the cost, but I understand that is often the reality. Are there health insurance brokers that could help?
Regarding the legality, are you saying that your wife MUST accept the insurance plan at work? That's interesting. It doesn't seem legal, unless you are again talking about the ACA, where is she refuses she has to pay a small fine. Not sure why someone wouldn't take insurance, even if it is a crappy plan.
I know I have an excellent plan at work and it covers my wife, also. I actually am not sure if I could totally decline this coverage
