PSA, prostate exam? What would you do?

At the advice of my long term PCP, I began PSA testing at age 50. Had I been high-risk or African-American, would wanted to have started at 40 or so. Only thing I wished had been different, that due to my PSA velocity issues from day one, that my PCP had sent me to a URO before my PSA crossed the traditional 4.x mark. I don't blame my doctor for that, he was following the standard protocol at the time.

I can't thank you all enough for your responses....I've spoken to him about it and he has no problem at all getting the PSA test, so that's what we'll do. Hopefully this one (his baseline) will be normal and on we'll go! I think it's the best thing and in talking to him, he does too. I just wanted to throw out the question and see what you all thought, and I'm glad I did. Thanks again for all your help and best wishes to all of you!!

Age 40.... But, more importantly, make sure you have a doctor who actually gives you the results.
