Post-op PSA (finally) = 0.2, so some radiation needed

My DaVinci surgery on 7 Nov was superbly completed by Dr Chris Ogden of the Royal Marsden in London. The final analysis of what they removed (prostate and seminal vesicles) was "much better than hoped, clear margins all around". Very encouraging.

After the surgery I had a bladder infection which ended in 11 weeks of catheter, not fun, but liveable.

After that settled down, I had a PSA test a week ago, and got the results back, PSA = 0.2, so some metastasised bits got away at some point.

I will be getting a new choline (Technetium) scan soon, and radiation plans will be made.

Sorry to hear this. Does indeed sound like radiation is in your near future. I understand the catheter bit, I had to have one for over 2 months after surgery due to stricture complications.

Good luck ahead, hopefully radiation will get the rest of it.

It appears that you had SVI is that correct? If so, studies have shown that RT confers no benefit without ADT first.

Yes, I had full removal of prostate and seminal vesicles. Before the surgery, I was on Casodex for about 7 months to shrink it all down.

After new soft tissue PET scans, Casodex will be started again, at least.

Sounds like you have a bit of a time getting to here but are recovering.

Having to do the radiation isn't any fun but there are worse things. If the PC is still in the prostate bed, that will knock it out.

Hang in there and keep us updated on your progress.

Were your seminal vessels found to have cancer is the question? Could a bladder infection cause the psa to be that high after operation? Im not sure on that one.
