Just like I'd get a second opinion if I visited a "star" practitioner right off the bat. We actually did that with my wife. Local hotshot here wanted to remove her gall bladder, we got a second opinion just to see if anyone thought there were alternatives/options. My wife still has gall bladder.

Where I would be torn (and pissed), if the first guy tells me I have a G7 and the second guy says "no, you actually don't have cancer at all" There I would go for a third opinion. This is exactly what happened to my Italian friend.

Bostwick was my biopsy lab. I saw no reason to ask (and pay dearly for) for a second opinion at the time. However, my surgical path was a local lab, and I did ask for a review, which was equal net - net, but some slight percentage differences.

Issue is when the path lab is the uro's golf buddy (as was my post-surgery path). Turned out the guy is really good, but I had no way to know that.

mine too and I did not get a second opinion. I think a second opinion is vital if your did not get you original results from a top doctor.

I decided not to have a second reading. The first was bad enough...

My original lab was Quest 3+3, Bostwick 3+4, MSK where treatment was done wanted to do their own read. Agreed with Bostwick 3+4 with minor difference as to percentage.

If one lab says Gl 7 and one says Gl8 it doesn't matter since both require treatment. Epstein I believe tends to be more conservative. My first read was Bostwick which said 8 and 2nd was from Epstein (which cost $250 btw which Medicare paid for ) was 9. If I got a 6 and a 7 I might get a third opinion since treatment could be optional. I believe that the score tends to go up at pathology.
