Diagnosis: Prostate, Seminal Vesicles, Vasa Deferentia, RALRP:  Adenocaricinoma, Gleason Patter 3+3=6, Involving less than 1% of Prostate Gland; Surgical Margins Uninvolved

Synoptic Summary for Prostate

Prostate Size/Weight: 4.5 X 4.0 X3.8 CM, 53 Grams

No Lymph Node Sampling

Histologic Type:  Adenocarcinoma (Acinar, not otherwise specified)

Portion (%) of Prostate involved by Tumor: Less than 1%

Pathologic Staging:

Primary Tumor: pT2c

Regional Lymph Nodes: pNX

Distant Metatasid: cM0

On day 10 post surgery.  Got catheter out two days ago and am wondering how long for leakage to lessen?  Anyone care to share own experience?  How many pads per day you went through?  What time of the day or night was worse?

Great news! Pathology reports do not get any better than that.

It took me about 8-10 weeks until I was down to 1 pad and another 4-6 weeks until I was "dry."

Next step is your first post surgical PSA. Let us know how that goes. Good luck for an easy recovery.

Give it a few months and you'll be much, much, better. The beginning is the worst. I went through countless pads the day I had the catheter out. I had NO control at all...NONE. Felt like a cartoon character that had been shot up and drank a glass of water ending up looking like a sprinkler.

Improvement was rapid measured by series of weeks. I needed only one pad per day after the first day or so... and then the improvement took the weeks. By 3 months, I was dry... as I type I'm just over 6 months out and I haven't lost a drop or a dribble for a long long time. In fact, I think I'm less leaky now than from before surgery. I dribbled a bit before the surgery. Now, my control is BETTER. I haven't golfed in a few months so I'm not sure if I'm dry when I hammer the driver but I have a feeling I will be.

You had an AMAZING pathology report. Sounds like surgery will be curative for you. Congratulations.

Great news on the pathology report. Stellar.

What was your Gleason score from the biopsies? Was the final pathology Gleason score different?

With less than 1% of the prostate having cancer, it is pretty remarkable that the biopsy needle managed to hit any.

Thanks, I, your post made me chuckle and pee, but sounds promising. I already feel like I'm gaining control, but that may be wishful thinking. Every day seems to get better.

The second ultrasound guided biopsy found a couple lesions in the core of my prostate.  An unusual place for cancer to start.  My Urologist said the first biopsy poked places they expected to find tumors (on the outer areas).  So first biopsy found nothing.  The second biopsy found the lesions and my path report on the biopsy had a gleason of 7.  The surgical path report had a gleason of 6.  I think my father had prostate 'issues' according to my brother.  Now it's my brother's turn to be proactive with his prostate health.

I wasn't one to sit and do the 'watchful waiting'.. my urologist told me most who do this who have one increased reading in PSA jump to treatment without hesitation.

I researched and found an excellent surgeon in my area, Dr. Chung.  My first gut reaction was to go with radiation seeds, but was told if I needed surgery after that I would most definitely have too much scar tissue to save the nerves for surgery.  At my age, having (hopefully) more than 10 expected years left of life, my option was surgery.

In the end I would do another Da Vinci Robotic Prostatectomy than go through another biopsy.  First biopsy I was fully awake.  It felt like the doc was snapping rubber bands on my prostate about 25 times.  The second I was put out.

Hi..Congrats to your path rpt.

For incontinence recovery;

The duration varies, some takes a longer time, some couple of days

Mine took 3 to 4 weeks

You have to do plenty of walking....drinking plain water...& kegals.  It will help you down the road.

That's a great report.

your body's going to a few months to heal up. Before you know it this whole thing will just be a bad memory.
