2mm lesion on rib - bone island or tiny met. Anyone have similar scan?

I had to go into ER on November 21, 2013 for gallstones and had a CT scan. According to my reports, one says tiny 2mm sclerotic in the lateral arc of left eighth rib, likely a bone island without other lesions identified, rather than a sclerotic metastasis. Okay, another version, according to Radiology Resident Preliminary, says a 2mm sclerotic lesion in the 8th left rib, may represent bone island or tiny metastasis give history of prostate cancer. I have my first appointment since radiation with my uro tomorrow and am concerned about this. Has anyone else had a similar situation to this? What should I ask doc tomorrow? My PSA came back undetectable about a week ago, first test since radiation. Should that make any difference? Thanks.

There are a lot of anomalies that show up on scans. I would ask about that. Am thinking a met would be unlikely with that PSA. Good luck.

I had a spot near the end of one rib but my uro dismissed it. I believe it was from a mountainbiking injury.

As far as scans go , it is said most traditional scans do not show mets until the PSA reaches 20-40. If you had one of the more sensitive

F-18 type scans, then possibly a met could show. If you read my husbands stats below you can see after he was on HT his scans are unremarkable. Even with having the F-18.

Were you put on HT before radiation?

Thanks for responses. Boogee, I haven't had HT. According to my uro and RT onco, they suggested that I only need SRT with my stats. I realize that it's more beneficial with HT which scares me. I tried calling a medical oncologist prior to radiation but never heard back. When I went to U of M Cancer Center in Ann Arbor, MI for a second opinion, the uro upgraded my gleason score to a 7 (3+4) but also recommended SRT. I didn't really realize the HT would be more beneficial until I was already having the radiation. Does this limit everything for the future now?

I too, went through the bone island worries. My bone scan before SRT showed a suspicious spot. At first my scan was cleared but my dr. had the head of radiology read it and was worried. After a month of ADT I had another scan and the spot was unchanged... So they gave the ok for SRT. If it had if gotten smaller or changed after starting ADT it would have been a matistic spot.
I guess for you a conformation would also be a second scan to watch for changes but someone with more experience can chime in.

Have you had an MRI?

What appeared to glow the brightest on my bone scan turned out to be a benign hernaited disc with spinal compression at T7 & T8. Not to worry though still found so called "mild metastases" at T4 & T9.

The pelvic MRI went the opposite direction. What appeated to only be a spot on right sacroiliac not symmetric with left was termed by radiaiton oncologist reviewing the MRI to be classic prostate cancer metastatic to bone.

Luckily at next follow up he defined "classic" as the shape of the lesion as opposed to preponderance of lesions.

So don't assume anything from the wording, force the doctor to define how he/she is using the terms.

You mentioned oging back to a uro. For the reading of an scans, I would rely more on a radiaiton oncologist than a uro.
