In the mail today was the latest issue of the AARP Bulletin. The prominent story on the cover was " 10 Medical Tests You Should Avoid".
And there it was right on the cover, at the top of the list, " PSA Test".
www.aarp.org/health/conditions-treatments/info-2014/choosing-wisely-medical-tests-to-avoid.1.htmlThe are some startling financial reasons mention in the article, i.e.
" A recent study published in the journal Cancer found that Medicare spent almost $450 million a year on PSA screenings, one-third of which was for men over age 75."
"An estimated $3 billion is spent on PSA screening for prostate cancer, which many doctors groups say does more harm than good."
I only offer this info for your perusal, just like we do when we find anything in the news about
Pca. Not a for or against screening, just another piece of info that is being disseminated.
The other 9 tests to avoid are worth a read as well.
FYI and FWIW,
Sonny
