Hormone therapy and Bourbon. How do they mix?

It's looking like I'm headed for a round of hormone therapy, but I do like my whisky. The thought of life without it is discouraging.

So what's the story? Can I have a big glass of nectar while suffering the slings and arrows of hormone therapy torment?

I am having a Gentleman Jack on the rocks as we speak. Been on HT for three years and all is fine. Just remember about moderation. I usually have a glass of red wine each evening with dinner. On the weekends I have a whiskey or a martini. I do understand that Casodex does not mix with alcohol very well. I was only on it briefly when my HT started.

Question--With a t3a rating is something going on with the lymph nodes??
To answer your question I have to plead ignorance since I limit myself to 2 16 oz beers weekly. I discovered in 1966 that I can't drink hard liquor.
I don't believe that dropping a casodex pill in your whiskey would do any harm. Watch out for exacerbating depression or other emotional harms; try it since I think you'll be fine.

Good point about the lymph nodes. I thought about that when my uro started talking about radiation. Like why oh why would we be using radiation if we don't know where the little gremlins are.

I must be more assertive.

I've been on hormones for about 6 years.....I like my high alcohol craft beers (barleywine) and an occasional Vodka....never had a problem. When I was in the clinical trial my onc said stay off the drinks for 2-3 days prior to the monthly liver tests!! Pca has taken much from me...but not my willingness or ability to have a few!! When going thru chemo for my rectal cancer last year my onc said let how I feel be the guide. I did have to slow down a tad!!
My Mom is 91 , thinks butter is a health food, eats food that I wouldn't touch, only recently quit smoking but has to have her daily double of "Jack".....I wish that I had her genes...she will probably outlive me !!

I sure hope not. Iam well into my 3rd yr on the "crap" and haven't had any issues with my Manhattan's
or Jack/Crown on the rocks.

Uro's advice to me was to TOTALLY ABSTAIN if on Casodex, as it supposedly creates nausea and vomiting.

I am Lupron only, no Casodex. Red wine and scotch are ok. Beer is not, but that is because it makes me leak (badly).

I find Casodex hard on the stomach. I don't think it would mix well with whiskey. That's why I take my Casodex in the morning so I can be good to drink at night. Seems to work OK for me. I can't remember ever having any problems I didn't deserve.

Everything in moderation. I've been on a mix of different treatments (Casodex, Firmagon, Lupron, and others....) for just over 14 months, but have found time to enjoy beer, cocktails and my favorite wines. During chemo, there were times in each round where a good cold skunky beer would taste good. I always ask my doctors about drinking with each change in treatment and tell them it's bound to happen so what are my risks. It always comes back to moderation.
Then, just as we have to find new "normals", we have to also find our new levels of "moderation". Drink up, johnny!

I was on Lupron and Casodex. No restrictions. BUT, during this period, all of a sudden, my liver enzymes shot way up. Doctor said STOP the Casodex and of course don't drink (not a big deal for me). My liver enzymes quickly returned to normal. We tried resuming the Casodex. No problems whatsoever.
