Doesn't it feel better now that you have decided?

Be sure you can see the TV from your recliner before you go to the hospital. No moving furniture for six weeks after surgery.

Yes it does feel better that I decided..
I have read this forum a lot but I still do not know quite what to expect.Feeling more nervous then I thought.

Jack - what pushed you towards surgery after all?

Glad the MRI worked out well. We are all nervous before treatment but we come out of it fighting and strong. You'll be beat up for a week while noticing daily improvements.

I decided on surgery because I felt that if there was a recurrence that I would have more options that are available to treat the cancer.

I had my surgery a week a go on Friday May 30.I came home on Saturday.Surgery went well. I started walking last Saturday and am up to walking a mile yesterday and to day.
Catheter comes out on Monday.
Final path report
Radical Prostatectomy
Prostate size 15 GMS
Gleason 6
Extra prostatic extension negative
Seminal Vesicles negative
Margins vocally positive,left apex
Lymphovascular negative
Stage pT2a
As you can tell I just typed off the path report.
Hope it will be not to bad when the catheter comes out.I have no idea what to expect then

That's a good path report. I think you meant "focally" not "vocally". Focal means small in that context and with Gleason 6 disease focal positive margins usually don't cause trouble.

Getting your catheter out won't be as good as the first time you have sex but most guys rate it as a positive experience to get rid of their rubber companion. It feels weird but rarely hurts.

But do expect to leak for a while. Some guys are dry when the catheter comes out but the majority will leak for a while. Take a pair of pull-up incontinence pants (Depends, etc.) and expect to need them.

Welcome to the other side Jack. Sounds like a great path report, you should be a member of the Zero Club after your first follow up PSA test.

The catheter removal doesn't hurt, it just feels weird when they deflate the ballon.
As Peter said, be sure to have some Depends with you when you have it removed. Most of us end up putting pads in the Depends briefs for double protection. It is also easier to pop out a wet pad and replacing it rather than having to take off a Depends and replacing it. There is also a big cost savings using pads also.

Good luck with the rest of your recovery. Keep up with the walking and water.

Frankly John T gave you the low down on the pros and cons of brachytherapy versus surgery. Really not much more to say. A hard choice, throw the dice and pray!

Here is my latest update
I got the catheter out about 10:30 yesterday.That was not big deal.
I have had very little leakage was dry all night so we will see how today goes.
@Peter you would right the word was Focally.
Surgeon said it was the smallest prostate he had ever seen
Will keep you updated
