The catheter removal doesn't hurt, it just feels weird when they deflate the ballon.
As Peter said, be sure to have some Depends with you when you have it removed. Most of us end up putting pads in the Depends briefs for double protection. It is also easier to pop out a wet pad and replacing it rather than having to take off a Depends and replacing it. There is also a big cost savings using pads also.
