First anniversary - it's been quite a year!

Yesterday was the first anniversary of my diagnosis. Some have said they totally ignore that date to suppress an awful memory, some don't care, some at least remember it.

I chose to celebrate it. I made cupcakes with light blue icing (the prostate cancer awareness color) for work, and thanked my team for their support the whole year. My wife and I went out to dinner and she surprised me by having another couple, some of our dearest friends, show up at the restaurant. The wife of the couple is a 13 year breast cancer survivor and they're the first people that I told about my diagnosis, when I could barely find words to speak.

So much positive has come of this challenging situation, that it really is worth celebrating. I've found new ways to relate to people that I'd never imagined, such as my wife's brother diagnosed 2 months ago with pancreatic cancer. Before my experience, I couldn't have helped him in any way. Today, we have a relationship I could never have expected. Just one example.

Another VERY positive point is, my wife and I having the privilege of meeting you and your wife, not once, but twice in the past two months.

Dorothy and I don't do anything special on my anniversary (but I do think of my DX date and time Very OFTEN), but just thank God I'm here today and doing as well as expected.

I'd like to thank you once again for all you've done for me and just being my friend.

Sure would enjoy some blackberry cobbler right now!!

Hope the move back to Michigan goes at the pace you prefer rather than the one it was on last time I remembered to log into the Wed night chats. Remembered again this morning that I had forgotten last night.

I too had my one year celebration recently.

The way I look at it, instead of G9 with mets at initial diagnosis, it could have been a fatal car crash or a massive heart attack. So every day, and by extension anniversary is a bonus, living on house money, and living by sonny's motto.

Great attitude and congrats on going from being in shock to where you are now. Enjoy and appreciate all the posts in the last year.

Congratulations, I think its important to remember the event, personally. Suppressing it isn't healthy, while PC may not rule your life, it is still an important part of your life, forever, one way or the other.

You have done well during this time, enjoy the cupcakes, sounds good to me.

I agree that this is a great time to celebrate. Every year is a treasure. There are a lot of really tough and really great days that make up a year. Hope you have a ton of the latter for year 2!!!
