Started my pre-surgery cleansing. Not enjoying the liquid diet but understand the need for it. Tuesday will be an early day with reporting at 5:30 am for surgery at 7:30 am.

No rain events in our forecast so I don't have to traverse 24" of rain in the streets. Once every 200 years for a storm event like last week is plenty. Worse than a hurricane for some people around here. I only have to worry about the surgery while others have to put their lives back together. I can live with that. See you on the other side.

After the surgery, try to walk and drink liquids as much as your body will tolerate as soon after the surgery as the hospital folks will allow - to accelerate healing. Getting up/down from the bed will be the hard part, so ask for help.

Hi Rockbottom,

Best wishes and speedy recovery. I had robotic prostatectomy ~2 weeks ago. Patience is a virtue. Take care with your catheter, follow your Dr.'s instructions carefully and you should be fine. I am also 54 and reasonably good health and my tendency was/is to get right back to normal, not going to happen. I am guessing this was a big decision for you so have faith and take it easy for a while, you are already on your way to a "new you".

Good luck on Tuesday. I had mine at 7:30 also. Just follow directions and you'll do fine. I had open RP and played golf three weeks later.

You'll be all right. Just don't trip over the catheter.

To another Florida boy from a Florida boy, good luck Rock! Where are you having your surgery? Are you doing the bowel prep on Monday?

Cinco de Mayo tomorrow, be sure you are drinking a clear Margarita!

I had my surgery on a Tuesday also and the catheter came out on Monday. Looks like you have a large prostate!!!

Surgery here in P cola. West Fl Hospital. Prostate is large which is one factor I decided for surgery. Bowel Prep is two days of liquid diet, two doses of mag citrate ( Yum) with Fleets Monday night. I guess they want to make sure I am clean as a whistle. So far it has not been bad . I am getting intimate with the porcelain bowl. I have done my best to empty the prostate.

I am at peace with my decision and ready to meet the next challenge that is in store for me. I have absorbed lots from this forum and will heed the advise of those who have traveled this path before me.

Welcome to the forum. Let's see. Random advice...

The nurses will be after you to get up and walk almost as soon as you wake up. They are not just being sadistic, the more you walk the sooner you will fart and the better you will feel.

While you have the catheter drink lots and lots of water. It keeps you hydrated, helps prevent urinary infections, helps prevent the pain meds from making you too constipated, and the catheter bag is really big.

Lots of guys are more comfortable in their recliner than in bed the first few days. Walk as much as you comfortably can and spend most of the rest of your time in your recliner.

Since you are in surgery now and probably won't be reading this until you wake up, welcome to the other side. Feel free to complain here about anything and everything. It is reassuring for the guys who are waiting for their data with the robot. They see guys posting from the hospital and they think "He may be hurting but he's on the Internet griping about it so how bad can it be?"

Good luck and remember: walk, walk, drink, drink. complain, complain.

Will keep a good thought for you tomorrow, RB. I'm a couple of weeks away from my five-year anniversary and often wonder where all the time has gone. I was 60 when I met the robot. Afterwards I would tell myself that by Christmas all of this would be a distant memory. And it was. You'll have challenges but nothing you can't face down and win. Hang in there. God bless.
