My Journey So Far (Newbie)

The only thing I can say is that I am glad that I have regular health check ups. My story is this, At my last physical in September of 2013 my primary doctor said that my psa was beginning to rise. It had gone from a 3 to a 4.2 in the past year. He wanted a blood test in another 6 months but I just thought that I would wait and get it the following year at my physical. Well I had to go back to him in January because I thought I had the flu and he had a blood test done and called me and said that my psa had risen to 5. His advice was to go to a urologist to have my prostate checked. Not being really concerned I mde the appointment and met with the urologist and he did the pleasant rectal exam and informed me that I had a nodule on the left side of my prostate. He set up a biopsy and I still wasn"t very concerned. I had no symptoms of any prostated problems. Also I was not a smoker,didn't drink and went to the gym 3-4 days per week and played golf (walking) 3-4 times per week. He called me at the end of the week and told me I had prostate cancer. I was in shock. I told him they must have made a mistake with the pathology report or mixed me up with someone else. He told me there were no mistakes made and recommended a Robotic Prostectomy. So my first stop was for an MRI which showed that it was contained in the capsule. My wife and I then met with an Oncologist that we knew and he sent us to a radiation oncologist who read the reports and agreed that removal of the prostate was the best option. He recommended a different surgeon who was fellowship trained in robotic prosrectomies and we set the surgery up for April 14th 2014. I am now almost 5 weeks post op and happy to say things are going as well as can be expected. Dr. was able to spare the nerve bundles and the path report was good. All negative margins. The only issue I ran into was a urinary tract infection that has been a bugger to kick. I am now on Keflex after a round of Cipro. Started pelvic therapy and things are going well. The only issues I have are drips now and then(expected) and some pelvic and scrotal pain. Back to doc in 3 months for blood test. Will keep you posted.
