Irritation with a catheter, friction or infection?

I had the same thing, keep the tube clean and lubed. Also, pull your willy down the tube a little and clean the tube, I had a build up of junk. I also read on this board that the stinging is referred pain from the anastamosis, where they sewed the urethra back to the bladder. Its been 6 months or so but I kinda remember the stinging lasting after the cath was pulled but it was less

I've had my catheter for 6 days now. I was told it was important to use the antibiotic ointment (not KY) around the catheter and the slit of my urethra daily. Guards against infection and irritation. I personally would use a sterile q-tip easily available at CVS or other pharmacies and would not use KY. I do notice a feeling of tingling or pressure seemingly when there is urine in the tube but not drained into the bag. Nurse told me this is normal and only get concerned if there is pain or discharge also.

For the leg bag that you have on during the day, try locating it a little higher on your leg to give some slack to the catheter line. I found that if there was no slack, the bag would pull on my man part causing irritation. Also a good idea to clean it with soapy water every time you go and you might want to try neosporin at the tip of your penis so keep infection from setting in.

keep the catheter and tip of your penis clean with soap and water. I was told after washing to use Polysporin to keep the area lubed and prevent infection.
