Novantrone (Mitoxantrone) experiences-?

Hello ....

   Even though Novantrone is one of the oldest forms of chemo for PCa, I am unfamiliar with it - except for a hand-out received yesterday - and for Wikepedia definitions.

   I do understand that there are heart muscle considerations if or when taking this chemo, and that there is a maximum lifetime for use of this drug. That alone is not very comforting.

   It is one of perhaps three choices I have to make within a week, and I'm trying to get as much info - from the real world on this chemo.

   If there is anyone who has used it, please give me your thoughts on this chemo.

As you know I mentioned that the Oncologist wanted to put him on a trial because the Jevtana is not working. I pasted the information on the trial below. I also do not like the harmful effects of mitoxantrone. I am thinking we will have to go this way because there isn’t anything else. This is a double blind trail so we don’t know what he will be receiving. I am not looking forward to this to say the least. He can however stop at any time.

Sounds like you’ve done research as well. My best to you and keep posting as the paths are very similar.

Trial:
A Phase 3, Randomized, Double-blind, Controlled Trial of Cabozantinib (XL184) Versus Mitoxantrone Plus Prednisone in Men With Previously Treated Symptomatic Castration-resistant Prostate Cancer

Experimental: Cabozantinib
Subjects randomized to the cabozantinib arm will also receive placebo mitoxantrone injections (color-matched with methylene blue) and placebo prednisone capsules.
There will be a maximum of 10 infusions for mitoxantrone placebo.
Or
Active Comparator: Mitoxantrone/prednisone
Subjects randomized to the mitoxantrone + prednisone arm will also receive placebo cabozantinib tablets.
There will be a maximum of 10 infusions for mitoxantrone.

Hello Cathy ......

   I know there often is no choice but to go on a double blind trial .... but I sure don't like the idea! Did the doctor give any kind of an indication that the placebo could actually be of some value as a treatment ... and not just a pseudo treatment?

   Either way ... good luck if the Jevtana treatment #3 is not successful.
