Just got my PSA result after 3 weeks on DES. It has dropped from 9.26 to 6.26, a nice drop and hoping it will drop more. But with was way my mets have grown since last November, I am wondering if more should be done. When the mets were first discovered Feb 2013 and Lupron and Casodex started, there was a good remission of them as shown on the Nov 2013 scan but they did not completely disappear and there were 3 new ones.
In Dec, my PSA had risen to 13.6 and I had the Provenge treatment in Dec/Jan 2014. My scan last month showed significant regrowth of original mets and additional ones in pelvis. At that time my PSA was 9.26 so it does not take a lot for my mets to grow.
At my appointment Tuesday, I asked my onc if he thought anything else should be done and his thought was to see how much more I react to the DES. I then asked if he would be happy if the PSA remained at around 6 and he said he would be very happy.
I am not of the same mind. I would like to see my PSA drop to below 0 if possible. I do not know if anything else should be done immediately but if the DES does not lower it to my desired level, I am considering going on the another treatment.
Am I rushing into another treatment too soon? What would you consider the tipping point into your decision to seek a different treatment. And what would you go with?
