Folks at PCRI I attended an advocates meeting that covered key financial assistance programs available for those that need it. Whether insured or not insured, there may be a program available for out of pocket expenses. I posted this at my site and to retrieve the core document you'll need to login to retrieve it.

It's the best one I've seen in my 8 years here. Many categories of assistance are available. Ranging from Medicare, Medicaid, VA, or general public, the programs are a plenty.

At the beginning of 2015, the MSW/RN at our medonc's reviewed our insurance etc. and facilitated
our application to the Patient Access Network, the Zero Prostate Cancer Foundation. We were granted
$11,000./year to pay for all out-of-pocket, co-pays, deductibles, co-insurance portions for
meds directly related to Frank's prostate cancer. Now, the pharmacy we use and the infusion center
bill directly to PAN and our insurance company. And the amounts still accumulate towards
satisfying our deductibles. How cool is that!! Medonc social worker does this for all the patients
in this oncology office...Maybe this is common but it was new to me.

So, there is money out there to help with costs of treatment.

Tony, because most treatments cost thousands of dollars per dose!!!, this is fabulous information. Thank you.

Thanks for bumping this. I know I need to figure out something soon for Paul's teeth. If we can free up funds that we are now bleeding elsewhere that would be a huge help.

After spending the entire afternoon/evening on organizing and reconciling copayments for meds and medical appts/tests, etc. it was a huge eye opener to how much we do spend, and how much has been spent this year already. Reconciled everything as insurance keeps telling us we owe a boatload but my receipts (thank goodness I keep everything!) show they owe us $10 at the moment.

I personally have used Patient Access Network for my Zytiga and also two $2,500 grants to help offset my travel from FL to UCLA and living expenses in LA for SBRT and Provenge.

Like Lisa we had the initiual grant and PAN recently renewed it for another $11,000.

I found out about Patient Advocate Foundation at last year's PCRI conference at LAX Marriott and they graciously paid another $1,000 to offset travel expenses.

I was fortunate to have Medicare and an AARP/UHC Medicare Supllement Plan F or they would have helped on any co-pays or deductibles too.
