Tall Allen- I do not know what a ECE is or a mpMRI, those are not in the abbreviation list.
ECE= Extracapsular Extension. It is similar to Extraprostatic Extension (EPE). EPE is the term used on post-op pathology reports, whereas ECE is used in the clinical (pre-treatment) diagnosis.
mpMRI= Multiparametric MRI. MRI can be looked at using various parameters, such as T2, DWI, DCE and MR Spectroscopy. In the hands of an expert radiologist, these MRIs can be used to help detect higher grade and larger cancers - the ones we are most concerned about
. For this reason, mpMRIs are gaining an increasingly important role in Active Surveillance protocols to identify and monitor only those cancers that require treatment.
Perhaps the moderators can add these to the list of abbreviations.
