RE: Gleason 9, Zytiga, Provenge

Hi everyone! I hope that everyone is doing well on this site! I have a question. My 75 year old dad, was diagnosed in January of 2014, with a rapid doubling PSA of at least a 26. His Bone scan revealed extensive mets in both his appendicular and axial skeletons. His second Bone scan revealed significant improvements, except for persistent mets in ribs, sacrum, spine, etc. A new development were bony mets in his right, lower jaw. He started Lupron in January of 2014, and then, in August he became castrate resistant. His psa was at a nadir of 0.86 and then it went to a 2.17. The Oncologist stopped his Casadex, and gave him Zytiga with Prednisone. His PSA went down, as of 9-26-14 to a 1.88. I am hoping that the Zytiga works. Dad is a Gleason 9. He also developed ONJ from that Xgeva medication (only within three months of taking it). Dad, will be starting Provenge soon. I am wondering if anyone has had LONG TERM success with Zytiga, and also had gone through Provenge treatments. I am also wondering if there are any new drugs which may become FDA approved at some point?

Taxotere may extend survival for a longer time the earlier he starts it. It can be given at the same time as Zytiga and/or Xtandi. Xofigo is the treatment of choice for extensive mets, but Bayer just ran out of it and didn't say when they'll have more. There are many new treatments in clinical trials. Your dad should start a conversation with his oncologist about it if he is interested.
