I know I'm getting ahead of myself, but.....

I did some reading about Dr Samadi. His experience is impressive but his marketing is cheesy and that turns me off. I don't understand why someone of his stature would need, or even want, to put out the kind of braggadocio that he does.

With that said, he might be someone I would want to see if I get a positive biopsy next week.

I found a thread on him here on Hw, (subject of which happened to be his cheesy marketing), that mentioned him as one of a group of elite robotic surgeons for prostate. I know Tehwari (sp?) , and I guess Scardino? , are two as well. Who are the others, preferably in the NY area?

I had open RP due to my gl9 at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. I chose JH due to its number one reputation and great service for out of towners like me. I did not choose the surgeon; JH chose him for me, I interviewed him and we hit it off.

Memorial Sloan Kettering in Manhattan is world renowned also. Any surgeon there ought to be great.

I also think marketing by doctors ( and lawyers) is repulsive. A good one should need no publicity other than word of mouth.

If you google best surgeons in Manhattan you'll find the top Prostate surgeons voted by peers I'm sure.

Bluebird, just curious, what was it that made you choose Tewari over Eastham?

Pratoman -- Yes, you are getting ahead of yourself, but nothing wrong with doing a little research. Hopefully your biopsy results will make this information useless to you.

I can recommend my surgeon, Dr. Vincent P. Laudone at Memorial Sloan Kettering.
He is the Co-Director for Robotic Surgery there. I got 3 recommendations for him prior to my consult with him. One interesting thing he told me is that he learned the robotic technique solely to de-bunk the hype surrounding the Da Vinci method … only to find out that (in his opinion) – it is the better method. He says the improved vision provided by the robot trumps the tactile feel of the open method.

I also had consults at Hopkins and I’m sure that would be an excellent choice as well.

Finally, should you need treatment, consider other options as well, such as brachytherapy.

Thank you Tigerfan. Don't know why, but i feel like my chance of positive biopsy is so high, with the big jump in psa from 6 months ago, to its present 4.3, combined with fPSA of 12, and high grade pin found in one core 2 years ago. But i hope you are right and i am getting ahead of myself.
In any case, i want to be prepared just in case. Thanks for your response. I have considered going to Hopkins, should the need arise. My cousin was diagnosed about 5 years ago, and Dr Walsh did his surgery. But with MSKCC in my backyard, i wonder if its overkill.

My boyfriend had surgery with Dr. Samadi back in Dec of 2012.  He was 65 at the time.  Gleason 7, 30%, bilateral.  Can't be more pleased with the results, the office staff and the Dr. himself.  He personally called my boyfriend at home, before we even met him, to discuss his case.  We had submitted his paperwork in anticipation of getting an appt.  Very caring man and office staff.  Nothing negative to say.

I hear you about Samadi but he'd be on my short list if I needed a surgeon.

Yes, you are far ahead of yourself. See my comment on your other post.

I used Dr. Ash Tewari and have no regrets. I'd do it again with him in a heartbeat if I had to.

And, Dr. Tewari made one major "upgrade" since moving to Mt. Sinai: As soon as the prostate is removed, it is rushed to pathology while the patient is still on the operating table. Pathology folks inspect the entire surface of the prostate for cancer cells. If there are any positive margins, that info is given to Dr. Tewari within minutes so he can remove more tissue in that area and hopefully get any remaining cancer.
