Can illness and 5 mile bike ride cause jump in PSA numbers?

My 3 monthly blood test was due, I was expecting to see a rise from .08 to about .10 but I was shocked with the numbers raised to .14.....6 clicks up in 3 months!

Previously, I took an antibiotic course after a dental infection, then 2 days later I was in India for two weeks of motorcycle tour in Himalayas where I had a few upset stomach days. On my return to Australia I came down with serious Delhi belly with dehydration issues that kept me so weak and bed bound, finally cleared with antibiotics course.

Two weeks later, feeling well again, I did a 5 mile bike ride to the nearest town to do the 3 month blood test.

Question is...can all this stress on my old body affect my PSA numbers?

The normal rules before a PSA test are............

1. No sexual activity whithin 48 hours.

2. No strenuous physical exercise and that includes riding a bike within 48 hours.

3. No DRE examination within 7 days. Some say 2 weeks just to play safe.

If you do not have a prostate I don't think those rules will apply.

The one month psa call is good. or you could re test right away. If it is still in the higher range, there is a cause for concern, not panic, concern. if back where you would like it, thats good.There was a gent whose wife posts sometimes here , that went as high as .3 4 or 5 years ago and went back to undetectable, and suspect he is still doing fine. I don't know about sickness compromising the immune system so as to waken the "little buggers". Maybe, but an active guy like you would get immune system back and put em back to sleep. curious,why di you expect a psa rise of any magnitude. A hunch?

You got time enjoy yourself have a few pints and cruise ,mate, cruise,. I just spen 2weeks on north island NZ. Wow is about all I can say! going back again, may buy some property. Will visit Australia next. I never realized how far australia is from NZ, a thousand miles or so, hey? driving left side was weird, but the wife learned t o stop my windshield wipers a lot. they drive fast on those hilly winding two lane roads also.

Interestingly there have been a couple of papers published over the years that shows a small rise in PSA after sex or ********** in a few cases. If I remember correctly (don't quote me) it was with only a single or couple patients, and the cases were published in foreign journals. So take that with a grain of salt, the strength of this is extremely low and not up to the same peer review as here in the states.

Second thought is that if there is a small amount of prostatic tissue left, I don't see why not the PSA can be slightly elevated after the above mentioned stimuli.
