Hi All,
Just wanted to know if anyone else has a Psa over 1,000.
Since my father has been on xl-184 his psa has gone up significantly while his alko phos has declined steadily over the course 3 months while on xl. Last blood draw on Friday his Psa spiked up to 1,600 from 1,160 2 weeks prior. However, alk phos was as high as 800 and has decreased to 305 and last draw was 328. We are worried the decline is now moving slightly up. Besides fatigue he has improved from 3 months ago. Not sure what this means, how can be be well when his Psa is 1,600. Worried and looking to see if anyone else can share experience.

That has to be a scary number for your father. I have one friend whose psa went well over1,000 but he is doing quite well four years later. Hope your fathers psa begins to drop soon. Keep us posted.

Mine was over 3200 eight years ago. Last PSA was less than 0.05 so there is hope.

My husband was diagnosed in March with a PSA of 1200 and alk phos over 800. Lupron and Casodex brought the psa down to 5, but it started rising again in September and is now up over 19. He will be starting on a chemo cocktail of Taxotere and Carboplatin next week. Our oncologist feels with numbers that high it may be acting more like a neuro endicrine type and he needs both types of the chemo meds to try and knock it out. Have they done any scans on your dad to see if the cancer is spreading?

I hope they come up with a good treatment plan for him! Hang in there and know you are not alone!

Scans were done in August and there was spreading to the lungs and liver. He was in a lot of pain and hadradiation which helped. Due to his condition, and loss of weight, the oncologist didnt recommended chemo (he was weighing in at 91 pounds). He had pretty much done most of the protocols and the last one Xofigi failed him. His alk phos was rising. So he was given the chance to take xl184. He's been on it a little over 3 months. Surprisingly, despite the continuing alarming rise is his Psa, he is doing better. He is not bed ridden anymore and can walk which he couldn't back in August. So this past Friday, the alk phos showed a slight uptick. I'm sure when we see the oncologist he will recommend another set of scans. Will be up to dad if he wants to go through it again so soon. Just worried and hope the numbers in 2 weeks check in. Not sure if he is ready for chemo.
Taxotere kept dads Psa in line. Hope all works well. Thanks!

with dueling metrics alkalline phosphatsse favorbale and PSA unfavorable, you have to decide whether to manage to either of them or to rely on scans.

Obviously at 91 pounds he will have fatigue, but also can use some good old upron weight gsain.

How old is he and ho much pain?

Is he seeing a medical oncologist?

We are in Boston, Ma. Have been with the same oncologist since diagnosed from Dana Farber. Dad is 71 and was diagnosed 3 years ago. Definitely had up and down during the 3 years. He has tolerated all of the protocols with minimal side effect even the taxotere. Been trying to beef him up but he in not gaining. We juice for him everyday with organic vegetables. Currently he is not in any pain and I attribute this to the radiation he had during the summer and the xl-184. We have looked in clinical trials and nothing applicable. Hope next visit oncologist has something up his sleeve besides chemo.
