After robotic prostatectomy, catheter was not draining. Nurse told doctor, and doc said to irrigate. Fluids were going in, but nothing coming out. Nurse kept calling doc that something was wrong - still not draining. At 1am, doctor ordered a sonogram and it showed that catheter was not in bladder. Went to OR and they did a cistoscopy to get catheter into bladder. Next morning, catheter was still not draining. Had a lot of pain, doc orders a CAT scan and they see that catheter is not in bladder (again). Go back to OR that night and they do an open surgery to get catheter placed correctly.
Chose the robotic because it was supposed to be less invasive and quicker recovery. Ended up needing to get open surgery because of this catheter complication.
Just wondering if anyone had similar experience.
