Returning to work using depends pads - Odor Control????

Hi All,

I will be returning to work on Monday. I am an electronic engineer, so no lifting etc. However, I have a question about urine odor control. Do the Depends brand pads have effective enough odor control so I won't smell of urine? I am thankfully not leaking much, just a few drops with coughing, getting out of the car etc.

Are there any other products that are effective for odor control?

I shower daily, wear a stick style deodorant and will change pads when they feel even a bit wet.

Any advice?

Depends do a good job of keeping the odor minimized and contained. It is highly unlikely that your coworkers will notice anything. The absorbent pads do get a bit smelly at times (especially when one eats asparagus) but the watertight outer part keeps everything contained.

I didn't have any odor issues. However, I did change my out about two times a day if needed or not. Perhaps that helped.

At the beginning I was an 8 pad a day leaker, so yes, odor was an issue. But as things settled down, I got to a reasonable number of Depends Guards a day. Those do deal with the sort of quantity you describe. No one has ever mentioned (or given any sign) that they noticed the pads or any odor.

The Walgreens Guards are less forgiving, as the odor control is just not the kind of scent I'd like, but they are heavier than the Depends Guards, so there is a trade off.

Tena also makes a men's guard that is the lightest of the three. For a few years they were enough for me, but not so anymore.

As long as you're not trying to use the pad up to the overflow limit, you're probably good to go with the Depends.

If you just have a few drips then Depend's Guard will be good. I ran a test (the engineer in me) and I was surprised how much water they actually can hold considering how lite they are. And odor control shouldn't be a problem unless you eat something that can really increase the odor of your urine. If that does become a problem just carry an extra Guard and swap it out.

Sorry to piggy-back, and I know this sounds stupid, but with surgery coming up in a couple of weeks, I was also wondering the same thing.

My question - when you're swapping out pads (or more) following leakage, do you carry disposable wipes to "clean up?" We finally got both our kids out of diapers, so this is the perspective that I'm looking at this from.

If so, does it make more sense to do some man-scaping ahead of time? Yes, I know it sounds weird, but I can't imagine trying to manage that with while catheterized. Just trying to stay a step ahead on preps...

If you push a pad to the "fill line", you'll be wet, and some sort of wipe will help prevent UTIs.

I always have a dog-poop bag in the watch-pocket of my jeans. The dark color ones will disguise the used pad all the way to the trash can, and be less noticeable than a soggy pad wrapped in a paper towel or tissue. I use them at home to bag the used ones as well. Keeps down the odor.

It did get me in trouble with the apartment complex. They pay a bonus to the maintenance folks who rat out un-declared pet owners. One guy who hated me (later got him fired) saw the bags in my big trash bag, and "turned me in". I was called to the office, shown my supposedly offending trash bag, and asked if I really had a dog. I just pulled the baggie out and briskly tore it open over the manager's desk. Everyone ducked and covered, expecting dog crap to cover the walls. A soggy pee pad fell in the middle of her day's paperwork. I suggested they were discriminating against a medically disabled person and that the Feds might be interested. Turned and left. Don't know what happened after that.
