I stayed at a hotel across the street from the hospital until the catheter was removed then my wife drove us home the day after removal. My doctor wanted me close by in case of any problems with the cath.
We really liked staying at the hotel, had a room with a kitchen, dinette, separate bedroom to sleep in. It was the summer time in Florida so I walked the air conditioned halls of the hotel for exercise, to prevent blood clots. If I were at home recovering, I may have not rested as much. I would find things to do around the house and they don't want you lifting more than 10 lbs. for 4 weeks.
Prostate surgery is a very complicated surgery reconnecting your plumbing, so rest is needed.
As I said earlier on your thread, I was told to stop every hour on the 3 hour drive home to avoid blood clots. And as Hawaii3654 said, we had to wear stockings the first few days to avoid blood clots also. The hospital supplies the stockings.
This is a big event in your life, take it slow and easy and you will be fine.
See you on the other side.
