GFMPH Gatherings: More fun than sticking a needle in your noodle. Corvettes??

Bump to get this thread ahead of the one that spawned it.

This reminds me of the time my sister said, "Just try going on the roller-coaster, you'll really like it".

The owners can provide the particulars but obviously NOLAVette (New Orleans LA Vette) drives a Vette as does Cajun Jeff. Sure there are others.

If he is into engineering we have toys and the tools of the trade for most of the specialties: optics, acoustics, piezoelectrics, combustion, dark sky, lasers, radio, nature, etc. It really can be like adult science day camp for some. You'd be surprised at some of the projects.
And the conversations are wonderful. We have a campfire (or two) going every night, consuming enough wood to raise sea level a measurable amount.
For the past two years 142 has hosted a scotch tasting that covered the spectrum. (I am not a scotch drinker or a cigar smoker so unfortunately it all tasted like fire to me. I learned so much listening to him. I can now say with certainly that I am not a scotch drinker. )
Also we're not joined at the hip. There are no walls or fences. People are free to come and go and sightsee as they wish. The meals are great but it is the company that really makes the event wonderful.
That is why people keep coming back and stay so long.
My wife is a Saint! So are my neighbors!

It's a cheap, easy vacation with a twist, not unlike a rotini noodle.

Hey Worried Guy, you forgot Jinga! You had 30 strangers rooting for you at a very fun place! You amazed them. Now then, I may be able to get my hands on a 1960 or 1963 red convertible Vette for BR...

GFMPH is a Celebration of Living Life with this crud. There is no pity party going on, but there is fellowship, food, spirits and the joy of living life.

I took my lady to her first GFMPH in April 2013 in Baton Rouge. She saw first hand the fellowship, support and life long friendships that come from it.

When we decided to be married, it was her idea that the wedding should take place at the GFMPH Rochester gathering in September 2013. WorriedGuy hosted the event in grand style and the ceremony was performed by Healingwell's own "GoodLife". It just doesn't get any better.

We celebrated our first anniversary there this passed September 2014. We even took the top of the wedding cake back there to be enjoyed by all who were there.

There have been a total of 10 GFMPH gatherings since the first one in September 2009. I have been to 9 of them and hosted one. I only missed the first one because I had my surgery that week in Detroit.

WorriedGuy had no idea what would come from his invitation to meet face to face back in 2009, but look at it now.

Just my two cents for what it's worth,

If you've got a place big enough to host about half dozen RVs, parking for 25 cars, a campfire spot for about 30 people, a bit of adventure and a lot tolerance - you won't have to drive at all!

Last year we had people from Texas, Colorado, Louisiana, etc. Our all time record Clearwater Cowboy from Idaho! No,... wait..., One guy flew in directly from a business meeting from Budapest! Does that count?

He and I can drool over the Northern Safety Catalog. I have a account and get stuff from there all the time. That's where I got the Kevlar Nomex gloves that I use for handling wood at the camp fire. And of course hearing and eye protection are a must for some of the experiments. The potato cannon is a thing of beauty, honed to perfection.
I had a 60 Vette convertible, 3 spd, no synchros. Like high heels, it looked sporty and sexy but wasn't at all practical. In fact the ride bordered on miserable. (There, I said it!)
The '62 should be kept in pristine condition and only come out on sunny, car show days.

Hand made, organic, cigars are already put back in the aging room, 2 more bottles of unobtainium acquired tonight (one experimental cask Willett Kentucky rye whiskey, one extraordinarily limited cask single malt Scotch whisky). I'm at 4 that will never be seen on a store shelf for Baton Rouge, and 1 already reserved for Rochester (won't be bottled until summer).

And I picked up a really good gin for someone who loves it -

Jeff, he would like all that engineering stuff. He is an environmental engineer by schooling though he works more in safety. I don't even know what some of those items are!.

Don't know if I can persuade him to drive his 62 corvette to Rochester anyway. It wouldn't be a comfortable ride. I might even be tired of the lovely roar of the engine after a couple hours. But I'll be working on getting him there by other means. He got the vette right before surgery in November. Hasn't had much time to drive or tinker with it.

All of you have me totally sold on the gathering.

NOLAVette's wife Sue comes by plane and he picks her up at the airport in his Vette.

So its looking like I am not going to make Baton Rouge. Wish I could, I was thinking of a couple of days in New Orleans, and then drive up to BR. I like Cajun and would love to meet you guys. But I have a conference to go to in Vegas the week after the GFMPH. And if possible, after I get a PSA or two under my belt, assuming zeros, im thinking about a beach vacation, maybe Puerto Rico. So wouldn't be practical.

But I'm hoping to make the Rochester thing, if the dates work, and if you guys will have me.
