The Seeds Have Been Sown.

Well I now have 91 all American seeds inside my poor little prostate.

It was a pretty stressful day yesterday. Mainly because of the waiting. I was woken at 6.am to be given my enema (I hated that part the most) Then at 7.30 my uro guy came round for a chat and informed me that I would not be having my treatment until mid afternoon! So no food and only water to drink up until 10.am. So I spent my time watching TV, reading and watching the world go by. At least this time I had my own private room on the fourth floor with an amazing view over the town.

At 2.30pm I was wheeled down to the theatre and remember nothing until I woke some 40 minutes later. I was surprised by this because in my paperwork it said the procedure could take two and a half hours.

The first things that I noticed was the pain between my legs and the fact that I did not have a catheter in place. OMG! when I coughed did it ever hurt "down there"

From recovery I was wheeled back to my room and given a pee bottle. I felt like I badly wanted to pee, but was afraid nothing would come out. To my surprise I managed pretty well. It took a while to get started and when it did the flow was more like a trickle and it stung real bad, but I managed. The nurse came in and checked the bottle for radio activity but all was good. I was then given morphine for the pain and over the next couple of hours I had a couple more pee's but produced much less than the first.

I had my evening meal around 6 and my son came to collect me around 8.30pm. I was given a bag of meds and discharged. We got home at around 9.30pm and I was beat, so crawled into my bed and slept like a baby. During the night I got up twice for a pee. It felt like I wanted to go real bad, but both times it was little more than a trickle. My bum was still hurting so I got a piece of tissue and gave it a wipe. OMG! there was blood! Not much but it was blood. I had not had that before, either after my biopsy or mapping procedures.

I got up at 7.am this morning and it was then I realised that it was not between my legs that was hurting, but deep inside my anus. I have not felt the need for a crap as yet, but when I do I am pretty scared what the pain may be like and what I may see. Is the blood thing and pain normal? Apart from this I am feeling fine. Just the trickle and stinging issue when I pee. But I have not felt like a pee since I got up at 7.am (three hours ago)

Well this is all I have to report on day one post treatment. My fingers are now crossed for BenSam who is having his second dose of HDR today. I hope he is doing well.

You and your seeds will be fine. Imagine what it would be like if you had had surgery yesterday. No, don't.

Just a guess, but the blood from the rectum most likely comes from internal hemorrhoids or some small capillaries disturbed by the fairly big ultrasound probe they use for the procedure. Since you are asleep, they don't take too much care of not causing you pain when they introduce that big cannon into you.

You can be sure that it's not the radiation causing this

My own LDR is still pending from clearing the paperwork with the insurance company. No date yet.

Hello Caspar and welcome to the other side of treatment. I don't sense much "wrong" with what you're posting. Although I didn't experience the rectal blood or stinging when urinating, from what I do understand that can be expected. Having the probe in your rectum and catheter in your penis are the most likely causes with what you're seeing right now. As long as neither case gets worse again I wouldn't be too concerned.

I'm also not surprised that the actual implants only took about 40 minutes - was about the same time for mine. I am however disappointed to hear that they made you wait around all day!

I/we are all out here as you now go through the healing process so keep us posted. My guess is you'll be back to normal (note I didn't say the "new normal") very soon!

It does't sound like it was fun, but as GOP noted, better than RP. The time will pass before you know it and you will be back! Hi Casper, sounds like things are fine. My temporary discomfort was handled with a couple of vicodins on the first night -- the urinary issues handled by Flomax, which you should be on as well. As Yoop said, in a couple of days you should be back to normal and looking forward to a cancer free life.

Yes I was wondering about the haemorrhoid thing, because I do get them from time to time, but only just at the entrance. I have felt around there but there is no pain. The pain is right up inside my rectum. I never had the same pain when I had the biopsy and that was carried out in a similar fashion. So the only thing I can think of is that they were a little brutal when inserting the ultrasound probe.

Thanks very much for the good wishes. I have still not had a crap yet. The last one was after the enema at 6.am yesterday morning. I hope that I don't have some kind of blockage. Can that even happen after treatment? Maybe they have left the probe up there LoL

Hey Yoops. Yes I am finally a full member of the club. By the way, how many seeds did you have?

To be honest I don’t feel that bad. No leaking and I can now pee normal, although today I have noticed a little blood. Not much and more brown than red. Also the stinging has gone, but now I feel a fairly strong pain right up inside when I pee. I know that infections can cause that so will monitor it over the weekend. It still hurts right up inside my rectum when I cough, but not as bad as yesterday. I even gave Peter the pipe a little rub today and he started to raise his head, but I quickly stopped because I did not want to do to much to soon. How long is it before the recommend sexual activity?

The only other things I have noticed today is occasional dizzy spells and a lack of energy. Although I should imagine the cause of both is the aesthetic and morphine, because I think they both take about 48 hours to clear your system.

Well waiting around is one of the joys of a free health care system I am afraid. He had 8 guys on his list and I was number 6. The worst part of waiting was watching and smelling the food and drinks coming and going and the fact that I could not have any!

Another thing that you may find interesting is that they did not check the position of the seeds afterwards. I have to go back in two weeks for that. Then 8 weeks before my next PSA check.

As Yoops said, they plant the seeds in a similar way as you had your HDR. Only it is all done at one time.

Hi Jim. Yes, I think it went well and apart from what I have mentioned above have no real concerns. I will now have to wait 8 weeks to find out if it has worked. But as I have said before, it has never been the cancer that has bothered me, but the side effects of treatment. If things continue as they are I will be more than happy.

They have given me antibiotics, pain killers and Flomax, so all is good in that direction.

Be wary of the morphine. I had it in recovery from RP, just cause I could. Big time emotional meltdown my second nite. I was fine the next morning at release fm hospital. thanks for the compliment. logos is word in greek and have always been fascinated by them and how they create each other. lidat is pidgin english for like that or etc.

Yes I feel that I am doing pretty well all things considered. I only got up for a pee once last night and could see no blood. Although I still have not managed to have a poop yet. That is the part that frustrates me the most, because I am normally a twice a day guy. That said today I can feel a slight need, so hopefully a bit later I will be back to normal in that department.

I no longer have a wife, but as I like to exercise my entire body on a regular basis I also like to make sure Peter Piper is fully operational if you understand what I am trying to say. I feel that he is ready to play, but have this vision of radiated seeds shooting out and zooming around the room firefly’s.

I don't do spicy food, so no problem there. I remember when I was in America a few years ago I saw those "sour sweets" that you have. OMG!! How do the kids manage to eat those things

Yes I think it may have been the morphine that was causing me problems yesterday, because I am feeling much better today.

Howdy Caspar, sounds like you had a better day and things continue to go well - although of course I'm not surprised! Also hoping you've had your BM, and that shouldn't be an issue.

You asked how many seeds I had - that would be 61. Also about Peter - I think the usual protocol is 2 weeks, I waited 3. Similarly regarding getting back to the gym, I waited 1 full month and then went right back at it.

Please continue to post your progress out here - that will go along way towards helping others understand what this LDR BT is all about!

on the hemorrhoids, the treatment does make that a little worse for awhile. I still get flareups from time to time but you learn to manage it better over time.
