Varian TruBeam versus Trilogy Stereotactic System for SRT?

There are several Trilogy Stereotactic system nearby and a Varian TruBeam system at a hospital that is an hour and a half away.

Does anybody know if there is a difference between the systems? Are both as effective in treatment outcomes?

Ok, I just found out that the TrueBeam system can produce more radiation than Trilogy which will shorten each exposure.

Varian has been introducing new LINAC models seems like every year ! Like a new model car....Hospitals and treatment centers expect to get 10 years of service out of them, they cost millions of dollars....But this planned obsolesce thing is a game changer..On paper, these new machines deliver better outcomes but as of yet this has not been demonstrated....

There might be a slight advantage to you for SRT to the Truebeam system because it's faster. Hopefully, it will complete the treatment before the prostate bed motion changes the target much. But much more depends on the imaging system used with it. I think Tomotherapy may be especially good for SRT because the imaging is continuous and built in.

From what I have seen the Truebeam is a newer upgraded unit higher radiation levels. I see both can use CBCT Kilo-volt imaging for reduced radiation exposure.

I guess that is how the company can make money, planned obsolescence. Newer models to replace older models. I used to work for radiology at a large teaching hospital and they were always upgrading technology to stay on top. Of course it at a cost to the patient.

The imaging stuff (CBCT, kV Xray) are all add-ons that can come with any basic linac. And they can use it with fiducials or Calypso transponders. The imaging is part of how Tomotherapy operates, which makes it unique.

I think you go with the best RO and let them choose the tool.

Kind of like the debate on type of surgery, robotic or regular, let the surgeon choose.

No, I haven't started any SRT, but I am staying abreast on the latest information concerning SRT. I imagine sooner or later I will have to get SRT based on my 0.1 psa after surgery and a positive margin. My urology oncologist says just to wait and see if and when the psa goes up then we can see what needs to be done.

Our local cancer center leases their equipment and they claim that with nothing to pay off, they stay current with the latest and greatest machines. You might want to look into how your center stays current. Best Wishes.
