PSA 14.6 2yrs after removal

I had robotic prostate removal 1 year 9 months ago 3 months later PSA rose to 3 an went thru radiation therapy PSA stayed around .8 until 2 weeks ago had PSA it was up to 13.1 so Dr. Had me redo PSA test 3 days later an now 14.6 They have scheduled a bone scan for Thursday but still no form of treatment has started yet. Is this normal an all I've read on Web is pretty much bad news.I'm 55 yrs old

I'm sorry to hear about your situation. It looks like recurrence.
You might be looking at Hormone Therapy at some point.
What was you PSA before surgery and Gleason score?
There are a lot of treatments available and more being developed. Good luck to you.

Natro: So sorry to hear about you numbers. You may want to post your profile so others may make recommendations. At this point my guess is you should be looking for a PCa Oncologist.

Just saying. If you have recurrence there are lots of options.

I'm sorry to hear that. Those numbers certainly aren't good news. but they aren't a death sentence either. Maybe you will lucky and the scans will find a hot spot that can be removed or treated. Otherwise you will likely end up doing hormone therapy. HT. Discuss this with an Oncologist. You are beyond the scope of your Uro/Surgeon now.

Welcome to HW, sorry you need to be here.

Let us know what the scans show.

Likely you're headed for some kind of HT. Hopefully your doctor will discuss that after the bone scan.

and it's not the news you wanted but you still have treatment options and every reason to hope that you'll keep the beast at bay for a long time.

Hi natro,
Very sorry to hear about your PSA levels. You and I are in the same boat with a couple of minor differences. You received radiation therapy and I was placed on hormone therapy before my surgery. You are also a little further out in your surgery. As the others have said, it looks like BCR (biochemical recurrence). You may want to talk with your Doctor about a Bone and CT scan, or if there are some advanced imaging scans available, you may want to discuss that as well. Like the others have said, Hormone Therapy is likely in your future. Maybe you could create a signature like the one I posted below. That way the guys on here can get a better picture of your history and might be able to provide more insight. Best wishes to you and keep us posted on how you are doing.

Thanks all ill make a sign when I get all the info from doc all I know was post up gleason was 4+3-7 an was in both seminal sacks an my bladder neck.one question though I'm a lineman an work on powerlines will hormone therapy affect my job?

HT will likely be tolerable. As long as you stay active you should be ok. HT's main effects are fatigue and hot flashes.

As a lineman, I'm sure you have to be very alert around live equipment, so the fatigue issue could possibly become a concern I suppose.

Natro sorry to hear about your rising PSA, I too after nearly 8 years have rising PSA, I am scheduled to have both a bone scan and CT scan, depending on the results, I will probably end up having HT & chemo.

Well hot spot from bone scan on my spine gotta wait till Monday for report but tech that did the scan apologized an said she was sorry but that she couldn't say anything else. Now maybe we can kill this an get on with normal life whatever that is lol

Got th he injection at 830 am an left an had to be back at noon scan took abut 35-45 minutes wasn't bad at all. Good Luck
