After my biopsy in January, my urinary symptoms have gotten worse and I've gone from zero getting up at night to 2 or 3. Last Friday, urgency & frequency every 30 minutes along with bladder spasms (they didn't hurt) sent me into my URO. He happened to be there on his day off (he was on call).
I had a cystoscopy scheduled in two weeks, but he decided to work overtime and told me "let's get this done". The lidocaine gel up the urethra was strange, but I had no pain or discomfort.
Dr. found my prostate had pretty well sealed across with BPH and was pressing back on the bladder neck. He recommends PVP laser surgery (Greenlight) because I have a genetic bleeding disorder and am on a permanent dose of warfarin. He said I'll have a catheter from 1 - 5 days and as a precaution he wants me to spend one night in the hospital.
A few weeks ago, I had unfortunate urine retention and was taught how to self cath for 4 days. Oh, that was a treat that I don't want to experience again! No pain, just uncomfortable and I sure passed clots and discolored urine.. whew!
PVP completely zaps the tissue, so there is nothing to send to pathology. After emailing today wondering about the lack of tissue, my URO said:
I could take some tissue out with a regular loop and resectoscope (Traditional transurethral resection of prostate (TURP) tools) before I start using the laser if you wish.
I'm just curious what you all think? I'm still concerned my biopsy may have missed something and want to take every opportunity to make sure.
Many thanks!
