I just got a jury duty summons, which seems to happen to me maybe once every 3-4 years or so. The last time I got one was before my PCa experience began.
Where I am jury duty consists mainly of just reporting to the local courthouse, checking in with the court clerk's office, and then just basically sitting around waiting for something to happen.
One becomes part of a sort of "herd" ("pool" is the technical term) of potential jurors who, during their day of service, are moved from courtroom to courtroom within the building, and within each room some of the pool get selected for the jury for that room's trial, then the pool moves on to the next room, etc.
The problem is that there is an
awful lot of sitting and waiting, often for long periods of time, during all this. And since following radiation I have had to deal with a bit of radiation cystitis, sitting in one place for any length of time (such as longer than an hour) creates urinary issues for me (such as pain as the bladder starts to fill above a certain level, even loss of control if it fills too much, etc).
So when I report I am going to have appropriate documents with me (Dx, RT treatment plan, some med records, etc.) to show the judge when he/she asks people to come forward with reasons why they can't serve. I assume the judge will grant me some kind of deferment or exemption, especially after he/she sees my documents.
Others have as one would expect had this problem. Here are some examples, with solutions they offered:
