I went back to LabCorp because my EOB's and bills from BCBS appeared to be covering costs at the in-network rate. May bill for testosterone, Free+Total LC/MS $379, PSA Ultra W/Serial Monitor $195,Venipuncture $25. Insurance paid $16.31, but there was an adjustment of $532.22 so my bill was $50.47. Not bad.
Then the June bill came for those and a batch of other tests $1396 total with NO adjustments so BCBS paid $77.81 and I get to pay $1318.19.
It turns out LabCorp locations can make individual coverage arrangements. Also, after searching and finding that LabCorp is in network on the Anthem site, then trying to verify that with BCBS, they tell me LabCorp is NOT in network with the BCBS plan I have through my company. Only Quest is in network. Mine is further complicated because Myers is not in my state. But the bills that have been mostly covered were submitted to Blue Shield Illinois, and the other one to "BCBS Fla in state only"!
So I went back to Quest for Sept, using their post prostatectomy test, which is supposed to be good down to 0.02. Mine came back 0.17, down from 0.199 at Labcorp after changing a med for a month. They said they don't have an ultrasensitive test like LabCorp. Their result for free testosterone came back far different also, 176 where LabCorp has been running from around 10 to as high as 37 pg/mL. They also only report DHT as <5, but LabCorp has been 1-2.
