Gee, I can't believe a Uro would perform a dilation without an anaesthetic.
I have had several cystoscopies and a dilation and all were performed under full sedation, except for the one required for the Urodynamic study, and I had to be conscious for that as it required my active participation. That was pretty painful as the cystoscope had to be accompanied by a sensor probe, so it was a significant package being inserted, but nothing like the dilation instruments which are intended to force the urethra open.
I am thankfull that my Uro has always said that patient comfort is paramount and he would not perform any invasive procedure (including the original biopsy) without full anaesthesia.
