My PSA Is 5.9 After One Year

hello, everybody.
i want to say that i am thankful to be here. let me give you a run down of what has happened. last year, my PSA was 5.5, so i was scheduled to have a biopsy. my urologist diagnosed me with asymptomatic inflammatory prostatitis and BPH.

on june 24th of this year, i had my annual physical. i noticed on the lab results my primary doctor didn't check my PSA. when i asked my urologist, he said it should be checked within two years of the biopsy. i asked my primary doctor last week, to check my PSA anyway. well, today, the PSA results came back 5.9

let me also add that on june 24th, my WBC [white blood cell] was elevated at 11.9. so, this monday, my primary doctor wants to re-test my cell blood count.

my question is if i have a higher PSA than last year, and my recent WBC was 11.9, should i be concerned that this time it may be something more serious?

i was prescribed flomax, but decided to take 320mg of saw palmetto instead.

The high WBC points to prostatitis rather than PC. Particularly the neutrophil ratio. You might want to take a PHI test next time rather than just a PSA.

He didn't prescribe Proscar or Avodart for the BPH also?

PHI: Prostate health index - I can't find the link to it at the moment.

I'd be surprised if you had PC. Prostatitis and BPH could account for the PSA in conjunction with a high WBC. I'd bet after a couple of weeks of antibiotic and the flomax, your PSA would drop.
