The title of this thread is also the title of the linked article below, in which the author discusses nine factors which she considers to be consistently common among people who have beaten cancer when the odds seem especially stacked against them.
The article presents no big surprises, as the nine factors which it discusses are already well known, such as better diet, controlling emotions, etc. But the value of the piece may be that the author identifies these nine, based on her research, as
particularly important, and claims that her research has singled them out as being especially helpful in cases where the outlook was dire.
A comment on one of the author's nine factors. She notes the difference between two related but very different things that people often say when faced with a life-threatening illness: "I don't want to die" versus "I want to live." There is a subtle but nevertheless very real difference between those two statements, in terms of attitude and outlook, one positive, one somewhat negative. According to the author "…the people who tended to survive" took the positive approach. This difference in attitude seems to appear as well in her other factors.
I thought it was an interesting read, good for reminding us of some of the factors to keep in mind when dealing with the beast.
