It has been a year since SRT and my newest PSA shows that SRT is working. Reading was <.1 as has been all readings since SRT ended last fall. It is still hard to believe the string of good news I have had considering how sickening the news was prior to SRT. While I celebrate the good news, I still keep looking over my shoulder from time to time. My nervousness is raised every time I get a PSA. I really do think attitude plays an important role and try to stay positive believing I am going to beat it. How do all of you handle being cancer free for so many years?

When I bounced - twice in a row - I was pretty rattled. I thought the cancer was back. I did not handle it well.

tdnjam, congrats on the zero.

I am behind you with only 9 months separating me from RALP, and aSA test coming up in less than 2 weeks. I don't think the fear of PSA tests ever leaves most of us (if not all of us).

Just got to focus on the good results of the last PSA test, and keep that focus until the next one. Hey, if we do get a rise on the next PSA, it doesn't matter how nervous we were beforehand, it's not like being nervous can prepare us for np as news, we'll never be prepared for that.

Take Sonny's approach and run with it, every day with a zero is a bonus.

My head goes to work on me before each PSA test. I just had my first annual test and as the time drew near I thought about it more and more but to be honest I was less worried than in the past.

My doctor told me that he wants me to worry less this next year but I'm pretty sure by now he knows that I am not wired with an on/off switch cool

My husband's 6 month post surgical PSA is in 3 weeks. Trying not to think about it, but it's such a big deal that it can't be forgotten. We have started to build a "game plan" for what to do when and if we get the bad test. It seems to help with anxiety levels.

I am now in the zero/undetectable club, but in my case my PC is incurable and at some point the HT won't work.

So, I know some day the shoe will drop.

In all honesty, I have not been handling getting tests/results very well at all.
It is like a big black cloud that starts about 2 weeks before I am to go get the test.

A few times, it started a few days before and I thought I was doing better in handling it. But not this last time, with a vacation coming up as well as our daughter's wedding. At least now the cloud is gone (as it is after a good PSA result) and life is back to the new normal. I can now go and totally enjoy our vacation and the festivities.

BUT in answer to the question, I do NOT handle it well. I just don't. I am not wired that way, I guess.

Prat -- I am awaiting your panicky posts starting very soon.

(But maybe you are handling this much better, especially due to your heart scare).

Mel, its in the back...no, the midddle.....of my mind, and slowly moving to the front. I am glad that i am going to GFMPH for a lot of reasons, one of them being that it will take my mind of the coming test, blood draw being done the week after the gathering.

But yeah, you have me pegged, the panic will set in soon enough

On a side note, i have a good friend, we had dinner last night... he had RALP 4 years ago, this month. Saw the Dr for his now annual PSA - G7(3+4) After surgery, same as me - PSA came back undetectable, Doc told him "see you in THREE years" i was so happy for him. He'll still have the test done at least annually, on his own, with his PCP, but what music that must have been to his ears.

I remember starting out that I was a basket case a week or two before a PSA test. I couldn't eat or sleep and made myself sick. Of course it didn't help that the news was bad most times.

The past two readings I haven't really given it much thought until the day of the PSA and as odd as it may sound, it scares me a little. I don't want to be complacent and I need to always remember I have/had cancer and there can be recurrence at any time. But I also don't want to deny myself some peace from knowing the news is good today.

My Uro did bring me back to reality Friday. I told him I look forward to the day you tell me see you in a year and can't wait when you release me for good. He said the year thing can happen but I will never release you for good. I knew exactly what he meant and it sobered me up.

tdnjam, when you say you haven't given it much thought the last two readings until the last day and it scares you a little.... I know exactly what you are saying. I have been a little less worried at times, and it makes me nervous, almost like you are afraid to let your guard down? That's how I feel, but in the long run, it's better if you can control your worry till the last daunt or two

Prato, I am glad someone understands...I thought it was kind of strange to be feeling that way now I guess I am not the only one who feels like that. I deserve, we all deserve, to enjoy some peace and happiness when we have earned it....and given what we all have been through that is so true. So I am going to try and make myself adjust my attitude.
