Food literature drives me crazy. For every 1 study, you find another refuting it.
Moderation is the key.

That's true. And it can often apply to other than food literature. Still, lots of advice(and opinion) is based on what study is being considerd at the moment, or just conventional wisdom not really based on any proof. And the latter has really dominated dietary advice for a long time. I remind every one again when any one not considered a quack would aggressively push folks to replace butter or lard with margarine or vegetable oils for frying( aka trans-fats), and that this replacement did almost totally take place in any processed food, any
cookies Moms would buy for their kids. Get your trans-fats, it's good for you! They don't much do that any more, but I bet that went on for 30+ years before they finally mostly shut up about
the margarine.
Here is a chart from the previous article I posted. Please notice that for non-processed red meat, the hazard ratios(for PC recurrence) are actually lower for all increasing quartiles. And even for the
evil processed red meat, HRs are actually lower at the third quartile and do not get an actual noticeable increase in recurrence until the highest intake in the 4th quartile.
Interesting also for fish, but the bad news for me (if I am to believe this study) is eggs and poultry(with skin). I love eggs for breakfast. It looks like I can get away with a few per week, but I think there was a separate category somewhere where indicating things are worse for high risk guys and eggs/poultry. Then again, maybe another study next month will let me off the hook.
