Sheepguy, you are stating pretty much what I was thinking, when I started this thread. What you cite, makes me wonder if we are doing our brethren a service, or possibly in a few cases a well intended disservice.
And Tim, I think you hit the nail on the head. We need to support new guys, first with reassurance that most often PC is not a death sentence, and there is life, I fact good QOL , after PC. And also to help them by relating our experiences, what we felt and maybe what we might have done differently to prepare and recover. And finally, help them slow down the decision making process, WHERE APPROPRIATE.
Clearly, there are guys like Tall ALlen, who have a level of knowledge that goes way beyond their experience, and hate to say it, but even know more than many GPs, internists, and maybe more than a few urologists, about
cutting edge treatments. And input from a guy like TA is high value. But even he is careful how he words his advice, so as not to advise what "treatment is best", but to suggest for further exploration with ones medical team. So maybe that's where the line is.
I'm rambling now, so I'll stop. But I think this is a worthy discussion in the spirit of maximizing benefit to the guys showing up here about
to follow in our sh!tty footsteps.
